The exertions of the Provost Marshal's men have put a pretty effectual stop to the drinking of liquor by those who never did and never would abuse the privilege, but it has done but little in keeping liquor out of the reach of men who would be most affected by its too free use. No longer than Thursday night, we saw on Main street, just above Myers's jewelry store, the inanimate form of a young and good looking man, who, judging from his dress, swear, &c., was a commissioned officer. He was about the drunkest mortal we ever saw. His canteen was half full of stuff, strong enough to split a brick. Luckily for him some of the armed police saw him, and procuring a litter, "toted" him off to the corner of Broad and 9th streets.
