Also, a communication from the President of the Confederate States, enclosing a petition from citizens of Southwestern Virginia, asking relief from speculators in articles of prime necessity, and that the prices of such articles be regulated by law.--Referred to the Committee on Extortionate Prices. Mr. Linn offered a resolution inquiring into the expediency of legislating for the relief of destitute families in Prince William county whose husbands and sons are now in the Confederate army.--Adopted. Mr. Barbour offered a resolution requiring the Governor to communicate to the authorities of the Confederate States copies of the acts and resolution of February 18th and March 10, 1862, exempting from compulsory military duty certain classes of the people, and to take such action as may be necessary and proper to secure the said exempted persons from conscription by the Confederate authorities. Agreed to. On motion, the House went into secret session.
