Mayor's Court. --There were present in the dock of this Court yesterday the usual quantity of miscellaneous petty officers, white and colored, secured during the peregrinations of the watch on Thursday night. An enumeration of their names, and the offences charged against them, would hardly serve "to point a moral or adorn a tale," and are, there fore, omitted. Owing to the very crowded condition of the jail, the Mayor is, in a message, forced to deal leniently with certain classes of offenders. It is probable that a large number now rent to the jail could be placed in the Alme House and kept under guard, and made to work, were that institution under the control of its owner — the city. The Mayor yesterday sent Geo. W. Cleaveland, charged with forging checks on Captain Wynne, C. S. A., to Commissioner who disposed of the case by letting off the prisoner, who was really not Cleaveland, but "another man."
