e Committee on Finance, in response to a resolution of inquiry, reported it inexpedient to exempt persons from license tax who distil ardent spirits from sorghum or molasses cane. Mr. Rutherfoord, from the Committee for Courts of Justice, reported the Senate bill in regard to the harboring of deserters with certain amendments; also a bill for the relief of Wm. H. and James H. Caskie. Mr. Woolfolk submitted a letter from Lt. Gen. Ewell, which was referred without being read. Mr. Worsham offered a resolution instructing the Committee on Confederate Relations to inquire into the expediency of reporting a bill prohibiting persons engaged in speculation in the necessaries of life from making any purchase of real estate; and also of imposing a like prohibition upon all able-bodied young men who have not been in the Confederate States army.
