The Cary street murder. --Joseph John McCarthy, charged with the murder of his wife, Helen, at their late residence near the corner of 7th and Cary sts., on the 26th of November last, was before the Mayor yesterday for examination. Our readers will remember that at the time of McCarthy's arrest he was found sitting near the corpse of his wife — that he was covered in blood from head to foot — that he had an ugly wound in his left shoulder, and another in his side — that two knives were found near the corpse, only one of which, however, had blood upon it — and that on being charged with having taken the life of his wife he replied that she had attempted to take his life. McCarthy is about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches in height, thick set, and rather amiable than otherwise in appearance.--When called to the bar he at first exhibited indifference as to what was passing, but on seeing Margaret Morris, the daughter of his wife, take the stand, he exhibited a restless
