The Legislature. In the Senate yesterday the House joint resolution appointing a committee to inform the Governor and Lt. Governor elect of their election having been read, the President announced Messrs. Marshall Randolph, and Alderson, as said committee on the part of the Senate. A bill was reported to amend and re-enact certain sections of the Code of Virginia in relation to the punishment of offences committed by free negroes. Also, a bill to provide for employing in the public service, or for the public benefit, free negroes convicted of misdemeanors. Among the resolutions adopted was one by Mr. Randolph, for dispensing with the Examining Court in cases of felony tried in the city of Richmond.
