High Price for dirt.
--The police yesterday arrested a negro named Emanuel Davenport, who says he is free, for selling a bag of clay to Joseph Dockerty, under the representation that it was sugar.
Emanuel approached Dockerty and offered to sell him fifty pounds of sugar for $80, showing him at the same time a handful which he said was a sample of that in the bag. D., thinking that he was about purchasing a great bargain, readily gave the negro what he asked, and taking the bag in his hand walked off in high glee; nor did he discover the cheat till some hours after, when he proceeded to untie the bag in order to use some of its contents.
Emanuel was locked up in the lower station-house.
