ed with receiving seven fowls, the property of James B. Smith, knowing them to have been stolen. Smith lost about the 1st of March some eighteen or twenty chickens, and was willing to swear that those which had been taken upon a search warrant from Lyneman's yard were a part of those which had been stolen from him; he knew them by certain marks. Mrs. Ounet, in behalf of the defence, swore she had sold the prisoner the fowls — they were purchased in the market by her about the 11th of March. In order to procure other witnesses, the case was continued till this morning. John J. Binford was fined ten dollars for his driver charging more for the use of his wagon than the ordinance allows. In this case five dollars was charged for carrying a couple of trunks from 6th and Franklin sts to the Danville Depot. William J. Stephens was fined for permitting a nuisance to exist on his premises. Joseph Stukenburg was made to pay a fine for driving his wagon across the sidewalk.
