The parties are next door neighbors, and the morning after the robbery blood was traced from Henry's hen-house into the yard of the accused, which excited the suspicion that they were the thieves. Winston, charged with receiving a gold watch belonging to Martha Payne, a free negro, knowing it to have been stolen, was demanded for examination before the Hustings Court. The complainant testified that William's wife stole the watch, but she had since successfully eluded arrest.
