accident. --About half-past 2 o'clock Saturday morning, the pickets in front of Captain William J. Dabney's battery, on the track road, fired off their guns, ran in and reported the enemy were upon them, which caused much confusion. Private John B. Allen, of this city, had charge of the magazine, and went in to prepare shells for the guns. The first shell, a twenty-four pound spherical case, exploded when he cut the fuse, killing him instantly, dreadfully mangling his body and mortally wliam J. Dabney's battery, on the track road, fired off their guns, ran in and reported the enemy were upon them, which caused much confusion. Private John B.
