Death of the King of Belgium.
The last returns from Europe announce the death of a man whose name had been longer before the world than that of any public man whom he has left behind.
Leopold, King of Belgium, died in Brussels on the 9th day of December. When we saw the announcement, our mind seemed to be carried back half a century, to the days of Napoleon I. and George III., of Francis rince of Orange and separated from Holland.
After a war of short duration, between France and Belgium on one side, and Holland on the other, the separation was confirmed.--The Belgians chose Leopol was confirmed by France and England.
From that time until his death, Leopold has been King of Belgium, or rather, we believe, King of the Belgians.
It is conceded on all hands that Leopold gov eopold are said to be very unpromising, and people are already looking forward to the time when Belgium shall fall, like a ripe pear, into the mouth of France.
