Up to the battle of Chancellorsville, I had hardly conversed with a man who was in Maryland last year, (except Marylanders,) who was not oppose this vicinity until some large Yankee force is brought out to meet us. One division, I imagine, will suffice to disperse any militia that may be collected.<
Chambersburgh is a beautiful town of about eight or ten thousand inhabitants.
The house; here, and in most of the towns, are built with much taste.
Some are elegant.
