United States (United States) (search for this): entry genealogies-american
Genealogies, American.
In recent years, and especially since the organization of the various patriotic societies, there has been a much larger attention paid to the gathering and perfecting of family records than ever before.
The chief present desire is confined in a large measure to an ambition to become allied to one or more of the patriotic orders, and this desire has become so widely spread and deep-rooted that the public libraries of the country have found it necessary to assemble county histories and genealogical works in one place for the convenience of this class of investigators.
The same desire has also increased the publication of family records.
The genealogical literature of the United States is now exceedingly voluminous.
One of the earliest and most important publications of this character is Savage's New England genealogies.
