Kanawha (West Virginia, United States) (search for this): article 5
Kanawha county. --The Kanawha Valley Star says: At the meeting held yesterday in this place, a resolution was passed requesting the County Court, at its next session, to appropriate $10,000 for the defence of the State, which we think it will do. Mr. S. I. Cabell subscribed 1,000 bushels of wheat, which will, no doubt, bring $1.50 per bushel next season. At this rate Mr. C.'s donation would amount to $1,500. Judge Summers donated $100, and other persons subscribed liberally. This, with the $2,000 subscribed by the Bank of Virginia at this place, will amount to a considerable sum to commence with.
