Melancholy Occurrence. --The Apalachicola (Fla.) Times says: On Wednesday last, the 2d inst., a sad casualty occurred in this place, resulting in the death of Mr. Peter Montgomery. It seems that a distress warrant had been served on Mr. H. D. Darden, by Edward Carpenter, Coroner, and by virtue of his office, acting Sheriff of the county in the absence of the Sheriff; and that he (Carpenter) and Montgomery, bailiff, entered the premises of Mr. Darden, and while there some difficulty occurring between Mr. Darden and the officers, the result was the shooting and killing of Montgomery by Darden. An examination was had before the committing Magistrates, which resulted in the requirement of ball on the part of the defendant in the sum of $4,000, to appear before the next term of the Circuit Court.
