Found drowned.
--Yesterday morning, the body of James McMahon, lately employed at the Tredegar Works, was found in the canal, just above the Armory bridge.
It appears that he left his work on Thursday night last, and on his way home partook rather freely of ardent spirits, and in passing along a narrow walkway, where there is no fence, just above the place where he was found, he fell into the water and was drowned.
He had a bottle of whisky in his pocket and a pipe in his hand when discovered.
His wife had missed him from his home since Thursday night, and knew nothing of his whereabouts until yesterday morning, when a passing canal boat stirred up the water and the body rose to the surface.
Coroner John P. Little was notified but did not deem it necessary to hold an inquest since there were no marks of violence and it was evidently a case of accidental drowning.
A small sum of money, found in his pockets, was sent to his wife.
