Murder in Wythe county. --Wm. Walters, the little dwarf, who was only three feet two inches high and 40 years old, was murdered in Wythe county, Va., on the evening of the 24th ult., by a man named Roberts. It appears that they were returning together from a still house, at which place Walters had exhibited a considerable amount of money, the desire to possess which by Roberts is thought to have led to the commission of the horrid deed. Roberts was heard to say that he had killed Walters only three feet two inches high and 40 years old, was murdered in Wythe county, Va., on the evening of the 24th ult., by a man named Roberts. It appears that they were returning together from a still house, at which place Walters had exhibited a considerable amount of money, the desire to possess which by Roberts is thought to have led to the commission of the horrid deed. Roberts was heard to say that he had killed Walters, but pretended it was done in self-defence. He is still at large.
The Legislature. In the Senate on Saturday, the joint committee appointed for the purpose, reported an address to the Virginia soldiers in the Confederate service. A joint resolution was adopted by both houses, extending the session of the General Assembly until Thursday next. A bill amending the act authorizing the construction of the Wytheville and Grayson turnpike, and to make branched thereof to the lead mines of Wythe county and Hiflabero', in Graysoff county. The consideration of the salt question was resumed and the discussion continued. The resolutions reported were adopted with a slight amendment. Adjournment. In the House, there was but little done, beside considering the salt question. A Senate hill authorizing the Court of appeals to held its sessions at places other than Lewisburg, was passed. The defence of Interior towns. --The gallant conduct of the old men and boys of Wytheville in repulsing, last summer, with heavy loss, a large raiding party, is well remembered. By their own efforts the citizens have, since that time, procured field pieces to resist future attacks. A public spirited citizen now writes: "I have another large subscription in iron for the cause. We would like to get some grape and shell. If the Yankees pay us another visit we will give a good account of them." The ammunition has been sent and it will certainly he well used. The men of Wythe have set a noble example, which should be generally imitated.

General Assembly of Virginia. Senate. Thursday, December 14, 1865. The Senate met at the usual hour, Lieutenant-Governor Cowper in the chair. Prayer by Dr. Minnegerode. Message from the House that they have passed the following bills: To amend and re-enact the act incorporating the Norfolk and St. Nazaire Navigation Company; An act changing the place of voting in Wythe county; An act to incorporate the Snowville Woolen Manufactory, of Pulaski; An act to change the location of the Floyd Courthouse and Christiansburg road. Referred to appropriate committees. On motion of Mr. Coleman, the act to authorize the Virginia Central Railroad Company to borrow money was read a third time and passed. An act to authorize the County Court of Fauquier county to borrow money for county purposes — reported without amendment and subsequently passed. An act to incorporate the Virginia State Insurance Company--reported without amendment and passed.
Appointments. --The following appointments of notaries public have been made by the Governor within the past two days: E. McGavock, for Wythe county; R. M. Kirby and R. M. Tredway, for Pittsylvania county; A. R. Courtney, for the city of Richmond and county of Henrico; John P. Tabb, for Amelia county; James M. Couch, for Appomattox county. The Governor has also appointed Frederick Rosenburger flour inspector for the town of Winchester.
