But when the message came to the Ionians in their cities, they fortified themselves with walls, and assembled in the Panionion,1 all except the Milesians, with whom alone Cyrus made a treaty on the same terms as that which they had with the Lydians. The rest of the Ionians resolved to send envoys in the name of them all to Sparta, to ask help for the Ionians.
