Kalathos



A kind of small krater, the kalathos has slightly flaring sides, with a spout near the foot.

History: That it was used for wine is suggested by the decoration, which frequently pertains to Dionysos and maenads. The spout would be plugged until the wine was drawn.

Term: The Greek word kalathos has several meanings: wool basket, cup, and psykter.
