TRANSDIERNA
(Tekija) Yugoslavia.
On the
right bank of the Danube near Kladovo. First mentioned
in the 4th c. A.D. under the name Transdierna; the earlier
name is unknown. The settlement played an important
role in the Dacian wars and also later after the loss of
Dacia.
During excavations the contours of a late castle from
the 3d to 4th c. were investigated as well as a number
of buildings in the civilian section of the city (1st-2d and
3d-4th c.). These buildings, often up to 30 m long, had
promenades, columned halls, paved floors, and traces of
fresco paintings. The finds include luxury ceramics and
bronze objects.
