[557] αὑτός “I am the same man in regard to my opinion” （dat. of respect）: not, “am identical with my former opinion” （when the dat. would be like Φοίβῳ in 285）. Thuc. can dispense with a dative, 2. 61 καὶ ἐγὼ μὲν ὁ αὐτός εἰμι καὶ οὐκ ἐξίσταμαι: though he adds it in 3. 38 ἐγὼ μὲν οὖν ὁ αὐτός εἰμι τῇ γνώμῃ.
