[812] μέσης implies that a moment before he had seemed firmly seated: “right out of the carriage.” Eur. Cycl. 7 “ἰτέαν μέσην θενών,” striking full on the shield: Eur. IT 1385 “νηὸς δ᾽ ἐκ μέσης ἐφθέγξατο ι βοή τις,” from within the ship itself: Soph. El. 965 “ἄρκυν εἰς μέσην,” right into the net.
