καταδιωχθεῖσαι τότε, ‘which had been driven in there at the time I have mentioned,’ viz. c. 10, § 3. This use of τότε is frequent in Thucydides: cf. c. 23, § 4, etc.

ἐν goes with the combined notion καταδ. - τότε - καὶ ἐφορμούμεναι (=ἐνοῦσαι ἅτε καταδιωχθεῖσαι κ.τ.λ.

ἴσῳ ἀριθμῷ not necessarily an exact expression; cf. τὰς ἡμισείας, c. 8, § 3.

αὖθις not deinde, but ‘once more,’ as they had done in c. 10, § 2.

ᾧπερ ἐγίγνετο κ.τ.λ. ‘on whom was by this time devolving the general naval command.’ πᾶσα, i.e. not merely of these twenty ships, but of all Peloponnesian fleets. In c. 6 Melanchridas is ναύαρχος. His term has expired.
