[693] νεός, a ship, or perhaps the ship, on which Aias is from time to time. But the expression would be more natural if Aias remained on one ship only, as in 416. So in the next line ἀΐξας, the reading of Ar. and most MSS., is suitable to a single rush; while “ἀΐσσων” would be right if Hector is pursuing him from one ship to another.
