[760] The ships enumerated amount to 1186. Thuc. i. 10 suggests that by taking a mean between 120, the largest, and 50, the smallest number mentioned for a ship's crew (see 510 and 719), we may gain an approximate idea of the numbers of the Greek army. The mean being 85, the total on this plan will come to just over 100,000.
