[548] “τέκε δὲ κτλ”.: parenthetical clause. Erechtheus is called “γηγενής” by Herodotus （“Ἐρεχθέος τοῦ γηγενέος λεγομένου εἶναι νηός” viii. 55) and others. The Athenians boasted that they were children of the soil (“αὐτόχθονες”).
