ἀκαίρου . ἀκράτου (Herwerden: cf. 562 D) would be grossly incongruous with μεταμπισχόμενος, and is otherwise less suitable here than ἀκαίρου.

δούλων is emphatic: ‘the most galling form of slavery’ is slavery to slaves (J. and C.). Cf. 567 E note
