The whole amount of money appropriated and expended by the town on account of the war, exclusive of State aid, was twenty-seven thousand five hundred and eighty dollars and twenty-three cents ($27,580.23). The amount of money raised and expended by the town for the payment of State aid to the families of volunteers during the years of the war, and which was afterwards repaid by the Commonwealth, was as follows: In 1861, $314.17; in 1862, $1,429.68; in 1863, $2,415.67; in 1864, $2,516.99; in 1865, $1,600.00. Total amount, $8,276.51.
