expect, gentlemen of the jury, that some of you are anxious to hear about the
quarrel between Meidias and myself; for you must suppose that no human being
could treat a fellow-countryman with such violence and brutality, unless he had
a long account to settle with him. Well, I am quite willing to give you a
detailed account of this quarrel from its inception, so that you may understand
that on this score too, as I shall prove, he owes me reparation. The narrative
shall be brief, though I may seem to go a long way back for the start.
