Arcadia vero civitas est non ignota Clitor, in cuius agris est spelunca profluens aqua, e qua qui biberint, fiunt abstemii. ad eum autem fontem epigramma est in lapide inscriptum hac sententia versibus graecis: eam non esse idoneam ad lavandum, sed etiam inimicam vitibus, quod apud eum fontem Melampus sacrificiis purgavisset rabiem Proeti filiarum restituissetque earum virginum mentes in pristinam sanitatem. epigramma autem est id, quod est subscriptum: “ἀγρότα, σὺν ποίμναις τὸ μεσημβρινὸν ἤν σε βαρύνῃ
δίψος ἀν᾽ ἐσχατιὰς Κλείτορος ἐρχόμενον,
ταῖς μὲν ἀπὸ κρήνης ἄρυσαι πόμα καὶ παρὰ νύμφαις
ὑδριάσιν στῆσον πᾶν τὸ σὸν αἰπόλιον:
ἀλλὰ σὺ μήτ᾽ ἐπὶ λουτρὰ βάλῃς χροί, μή σε καὶ αὔρη
πη1νῃ 2 ἐντὸς ἐόντα μέθης:
φεῦγε δ᾽ ἐμὴν πηγὴν μισάμπελον, ἔνθα Μελάμπους
λυσάμενος λύσσης Προιτίδας ἀρτεμέας
