1. to strike or throw (a ball) to and fro as in the games of tennis and bandy; mostly fig. to give and take (blows, words) LLL. V. ii. 29, Shr. V. ii. 173, 3H6 I. iv. 49 “I will not bandy with thee word for word,” Rom. II. v. 14, Lr. I. iv. 92 “Do you bandy looks with me?,” II. iv. 178 “To bandy hasty words.”
2. to contend, strive, fight AYL. V. i. 62, 1H6 IV. i. 190, Tit. I. i. 312, Rom. III. i. 94 “the prince expressly hath Forbidden bandying in Verona streets.”
