gainst, in mod. edd. usually “'gainst”: used in the various senses of ‘against’, the temporal meaning being least usual; =AGAINST 2 Shr. II. i. 309 [317] “ the wedding day,” R2 V. ii. 66 (Qq2-5 “against”), Rom. III. v. 154; =AGAINST 3 Tit. V. ii. 206 (Qq “against”), Ham. I. i. 158 “gainst that season comes.”
