ADVERBS After; again; all; almost

After was used adverbially of time:

“If you know
That I do fawn on men, and hug them hard,
And after scandal them.

Now we use afterwards in this sense, using after rarely as an adverb and only with verbs of motion, to signify an interval of space, as "he followed after."
