Anon. The derivative meaning of anon (an-ane) is "at one instant," or "in an instant," and this is its ordinary use. But in

“Still and anon.

“Which ever and anon he gave his nose.

anon seems to mean "the moment after," a previous moment being implied by "still," "ever." Compare our "now and then."
