A drawing revealing the structure of a three-dimensional object by imaginarily slicing a piece away and showing the exposed,"cut-away" view of the remaining face.

Description: Viewing a three-dimensional object in section is comparable to what one sees when looking at the back of a dollhouse. A frontal view of a dollhouse does not reveal the arrangement of rooms behind the wall or the thickness of walls and floors. A back view, the wall having been cut-away, reveals the structure clearly. A section is drawn without the distortion of lighting or viewing angle. Like in an elevation, a section shows every element of a structure as if on eye level. The purpose of a section is to show the true measurement and relationship of elements within the structure. A section should always contain a scale as a measuring guide.
