BABBA IULIA CAMPESTRIS Morocco.

Augustan colony of W Mauretania, mentioned by Pliny, Ptolemy, Stephanos of Byzantium, the Ravenna Geographer, and perhaps the Notitia Dignitatum. Its existence is confirmed by an inscription found at Thamusida. It has usually been placed between Tingis and the wadi Loukkos, but it should rather be sought between that wadi and the Sebou, perhaps on the lower reaches of the Ouerrha, although none of the Roman settlements hitherto found in that area is large enough to be called a colony.
