BROCAVUM (Brougham) Cumberland, England.

Fort and civil settlement, occupied from ca. A.D. 80 until the 5th c. Garrisons included a numerus of Stratonician cavalry and a cohort of Gauls. A late Roman tombstone gives evidence of a Christian community. The visible platform of the fort, with an unusually wide ditch, is partly obscured by a mediaeval castle.
