JIBILA (“Cotta”) Morocco.

An important fish-salting and garum-manufacturing center S of the Ras Achakar, 15 km SW of Tingi. Built in the 1st c. B.C. and occupied until the end of the 3d c. A.D., it preserves remains of workshops, a tank, an oil-mill, a house, and some baths; also a necropolis. There is no evidence to support the suggestion that the site is Cotta, the pre-Roman oppidum mentioned by Pliny (5.2). Other fishsalting works lie 15 km to the S, on the left bank of the wadi Tahadart.
