LES MESNULS Dept. Seine-et-Oise, France.

La Millière is a wooded site in the commune of Les Mesnuls in the canton of Rambouillet, on the edge of the state forest, the Forêt de Rambouillet. Its name may be a reminder that a milestone stood here in ancient times which has now disappeared. Excavations carried out here since 1965 have uncovered a villa with a galleried facade forming a rectangle 30 x 25 m.

The base of the walls is still covered with frescoes showing life-size people with birds, flowers, and plants. The building may be dated from the 2d c. and the first half of the 3d c.
