(“Robrica”) Mayenne, France.
A Roman statio (3d-4th c. A.D.) 11 km from Jublains
on the slopes of Mont Rochard. Its function was unquestionably military. At the site can be seen a square
defensive rampart 200 m on each side, with towers at the
corners. In the S section of this wall and inside it is a
round tower generally considered to be a watchtower.
Outside the rampart, built against its W wall, are the
substructures of houses, stables, and shops.
Excavation outside the rampart and close to it has uncovered a small, fairly well-preserved bath building of the
Classical type: a large rectangular structure flanked at the
W corner by a rectangular room with an apse to the SW.
The hot rooms and service rooms occupy the central
building, but the cold baths are in the W annex, where a
curved bench follows the contour of the apsed section.
The walls on three sides of the building still retain their
original height, ca. 5 m.
