πύργος the city-wall with its towers and its seven gates （already famous in the Hom. Od. 11.263 “Θήβης ἕδος ἑπταπύλοιο）.” Cp. Eur. Ba. 170 “Κάδμον ... ὃς πόλιν Σιδωνίαν ι λιπὼν ἐπύργωσ᾽ ἄστυ Θηβαῖον τόδε.” Eur. Hec. 1209 “πέριξ δὲ πύργος εἶχ᾽ ἔτι πτόλιν.”
