[1432] ἐλπίδος μ᾽ ἀπέσπασας suddenly plucked me away from (made me to abandon) my uneasy foreboding: cp. Lat. revellerefalsorum persuasionem, Sen. Letter 95), and our phrase, “a revulsion of feeling ”: Soph. Aj. 1382ὥς μ᾽ ἔψευσας ἐλπίδος πολύ.” Conversely (Soph. El. 809ἀποσπάσας ... φρενὸς αἵ μοι μόναι παρῆσαν ἐλπίδων.
