Soph. cannot have written these two verses as they stand; and the fault is doubtless in 1280. Porson's οὐχ ἑνὸς μόνου. though plausible, is in sense somewhat weak, and does not serve to connect 1280 with 1281. In the conjecture, οὐ μόνου κάτα, the force of the prep. is suitable to the image of a descending torrent which overwhelms: and for its place cp. Soph. Aj. 969 “τί δῆτα τοῦδ᾽ ἐπεγγελῷεν ἂν κάτα;” Soph. Aj. 302 “λόγους ... τοὺς μὲν Ἀτρειδῶν κάτα.”
