ὡς marks that the partic. τεθραμμένον expresses the view held by the subject of the leading verb （ἄνωγεν）: i.e., “as having been harboured” = “which （he says） has been harboured.” Cp. Xen. Anab. 1.2.1 “ἔλεγε θαρρεῖν ὡς καταστησομένων τούτων εἰς τὸ δέον”: he said, “Take courage, in the assurance that” etc.
