The dead repelled the spirit of the unburied from their converse: Il. 23.71 (the shade of the unburied Patroclus to Achilles) “θάπτε με ὅττι τάχιστα, πύλας Ἀΐδαο περήσω. ι τῆλέ με εἴργουσι ψυχαί, εἴδωλα καμόντων, ι οὐδέ μέ πω μίσγεσθαι ὑπὲρ ποταμοῖο ἐῶσιν”.
