ἐπ᾽ ἀρρήτοιςτοῖς ἐμ. λ. (but you did not choose death) without my words (my arguments against that course) having been spoken,—referring to vv. 49—68. For “ἐπί” with the negative verbal (=“πρὶν τοὺς ἐμοὺς λόγους ῥηθῆναι”) cp. Eur. Ion 228ἐπὶ δ᾽ ἀσφάκτοις μήλοισι δόμων μὴ πάριτ᾽ ἐς μυχόν” (‘before sheep have been slain, pass not,’ etc.).
