χρηστήρια, with tragic pathos, since the word denoted holy sacrifices to the gods (properly, before consulting an oracle): Aesch. Theb. 230σφάγια καὶ χρηστήρια θεοῖσιν ἔρδειν”. Cp. Aesch. Ag. 645παιᾶνα τόνδ᾽ Ερινύων”.
