τῶν μεγάλων Δαναῶν are clearly not the Greek chiefs (“οἱ μεγάλοι βασιλῆς”, 189), but the Greek army at large. It is the popular fury that the Salaminians are now thinking of: in 228 “περίφαντος..θανεῖται” alludes to public stoning, the “λιθόλευστον Ἄρη” of v. 253. κλῃζομέναν, noised abroad by them: cp. Tr. 659“κλῄζεται θυτήρ”, he is rumoured to be sacrificing; and ib. 1268 “κλῃζόμενοι ι πατέρες”.
