τόπον Τροίας, i.e. “Τροίαν”: a periphrasis like “τὸν Κιθαιρῶνος τόπον” ( O. T. 1134). Here “Τροία” is used in the Homeric manner, to denote not only the city but the country; “ἡ Τρῳάς”, as=‘the Troad,’ occurs first in Herodotus (5. 122). ἐπελθὼν, after Telamon; cp. “ἐπιγίγνομαι”.
