ὅπως … δείξει is the object clause to “ἀγγείλατ᾽ ἐντολήν”. A final clause, “ὅπως..δείξῃ”, would be less fitting here. Ἐριβοίᾳ λέγω. The dat. is more forcible than the acc. would be, as it keeps the command, “ὅπως δείξει μητρί”, before the mind; cp. Aesch. fr. 175 “τῆς Ἀντικλείας ἆσσον ἦλθε Σίσυφος”, | “τῆς σῆς λέγω τσι μητρός”. Dem. or. 19 § 152 “περὶ ..μειζόνων, λέγω δὲ Φωκέων καὶ Πυλῶν”. Ajax adds these words to show that he does not mean Teucer's mother, Hesionè (1300). Eriboea was the daughter of Alcathoüs, king of Megara: Pindar mentions her as the mother of Ajax (I. 5. 45). She is called Periboea by Apollodorus (3. 12 § 7) and Pausanias (1. 42. 1).
